Every diamond is unique and special to each individual. But, it is widely held that a diamond's colour and clarity are it's most important features.

Diamond Colour Grades:
Every diamond has it's own colour range and some colours will be more desirable than others, it's most desirable colour is called fine colour.

Diamonds in the colourless to light yellow range are graded from D to Z, D being colourless and Z being light yellow. In most gemstones colour is sought after, but when it comes to diamonds the rarest are the colourless diamonds. Clear white, or transparent, diamonds are usually graded G-H and are the most expensive.

Historic 163-carat diamond to sell for over $30 million

An historic emerald-cut diamond weighing 163-carats is set to sell for over $30 million USD when it goes on sale at Christie's in Geneva next month.

The D-flawless diamond named The Art de Grisogono, Creation 1, was unveiled at the Dubai Diamond conference on Tuesday. It first appeared in a necklace setting, before transforming into the centre piece of a bracelet.

Record 37ct. Pink Diamond Up for Sale

Sotheby's Auction House announced that a rare, fancy intense pink diamond will be up for auction for an estimated $20 million to $30 million USD.

The diamond has a weight of 37.30 carats and according to Sotheby's, the Raj Pink diamond is the largest fancy intense pink diamond on record . Sotheby's set the previous record for the sale of the Graff Pink in 2010, for $46.2 million USD.
 
Sotheby's noted that the Graff Pink is a third smaller than the Raj Pink and it's colour is not as intense. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) noted it as an "astonishing stone" with a "very bright and ravishing fancy intense pink colour" .
